Staying up for the music shows — LIVE

I started to tune into the entirety of a music show in the very end of 2017. I only watched them when my favorites are promoting their new music which was in March, April, July, and now. Most of the music shows air around 1 or 2 am so I would pick and choose the music shows to watch during the first half of this year. But as for it being summer, I watched almost all of the music shows live when my favorites came back or even when I am bored of sleeping. I enjoy staying up for these performances because they never fail to make my day and night. To be frank, everything and anything K-pop always make my days and nights. A post. A music video. An announcement even. Anyways, I remember watching MBC Gayo Daejun 2017 (an end-of-the-year event) and not sleeping a bit that day. I was surprisingly refreshed though.

    Summer Productivity — FAIL

This summer may be the second least productive summer in my life. This summer consisted of K-pop and meeting important deadlines for my future. I started this blog in June and I started making compilation videos and I started catching up with K-pop content I missed out on prior to the start of summer. I attempted to learn Korean and write more in general. These were all the things that had interested me. My brain has not been taking in knowledge much, or even at all. This summer was a waste, however it wasn't a complete waste. That'd just be sad. I am glad that I know now, how to deal with the dull and bad times. K-pop! I threw myself into the K-pop realm and became obsessively passionate about it. I am more determined and happy when I am doing something like writing about K-pop. At first, I thought it would be very idiotic to write about K-pop. But, I started to write and write. I became addicted and did it more. Was my summer productive? It wasn't to an extent.

Past Events & K-pop artists to — NOTE

After my first encounter with K-pop in 2015, I pushed it to the side for nearly two years. It was there, and I did listen to it. It was just like I said, there.

I started to listen to it more in the end of 2017. I used K-pop as a distraction and stress reliever and motivator. K-pop got me through what was left of 2017. I discovered Stray Kids and GFriend during that time too, so my attitude changed. I went from gloomy optimism to optimistic gloom with a blossoming mindset/outlook on my life. K-pop opened my eyes for the second time, (the first time was in 2015) to the brighter things in my life.

In terms of this summer, I didn't discover much. I just educated myself on the K-pop groups I noted from January to May. Those groups were: (G)I-DLE, OH MY GIRL, and PRISTIN.

    Favorite Summer Comeback(s) — BEST

Due to being my obvious favorites, I will be disregarding GFriend and Stray Kids' (debut) and comebacks when declaring my favorites; I love both of them a lot. In that case, my favorite summer comebacks were/are:

    • Wanna One; Song: "Light" - Album: 1÷x=1 (Undivided)
    • BLACKPINK; Song: "DDU-DU DDU-DU" - Album: SQUARE UP
    • BTOB; Song: "Only one for me" - Album: This Is Us
    • DAY6; Song: "Shoot Me" - Album: Shoot Me: Youth Part 1
    • MAMAMOO; Song: "Egotistic" - Album: Red Moon
    • SEVENTEEN; Song: "Oh My!" - Album: YOU MAKE MY DAY
    • iKON; Song: "KILLING ME" - Album: NEW KIDS: CONTINUE
    • Red Velvet; Song: "Power Up" - Album: Summer Magic
    • BTS; Song: ??? - Album: Love Yourself: Answer
Out of all the comebacks stated, my favorite song is "KILLING ME" and my favorite album is SQUARE UP. YG ENTERTAINMENT REPRESENT! By the way, if I was to choose a favorite company, then it would definitely be Source Music.

    My Favorite Lyrics — LINE

    I am WHO
    I am WHAT
What’s the reason for my real existence

     —Stray Kids' "WHO"—

하지만 일단 내 앞에 길을 달려
    고민은 다음 갈림길에서
그때까지는 자꾸 나의 옆을 돌아보지 마
잊지마 my speed, my lane, my pace
[Translation: But first, let me go on my way
I’ll deal with the worries at the next crossroads
Until then, stop looking next to you
Don’t forget, my speed, my lane, my pace]
    —Stray Kids' "My Pace"—

현실에선 대체 둘 중 누가 진짜 나일까
[Translation: In reality, I question myself which one of the two is really me]

    —Stray Kids' "Question"—

널 보고 싶어 널 보고 싶어 행복한 입이 귀에 걸린 널
[Translation: I miss you. I miss you. Happiness used to be hung on your ears]

    —Stray Kids' "M.I.A."—

    이 모든 게 꿈이면 난 정말
    난 어쩌나 어쩌나
[Translation: If this was all really a dream
    What do I do?]

     —SEVENTEEN's "Oh My!"—

할 말이 있는 걸 말하지 않으면
    평생을 후회하며 살 것 같아
[Translation: I have something to say, if I don’t say it
I might regret it all my life]

     —BTOB's "Only one for you"—

    지금 어떤 상황인지
    나 이래도 되는지
[Translation: What is going on right now?
Am I allowed to be like this?]

    —ONF's "Complete"—

Watching and Catching Up with — V-LIVE

Besides the new music and content and comebacks, I watched a bunch of live streams on the V-LIVE app. I recall laughing and snickering to the IDOL ROOM live stream with GFriend. I caught up with the overlooked two years worth of content on GFriend's V-LIVE channel, because I became a Buddy way after they debuted. As for Stray Kids, I watched all of their released content that are their shows, but for their random live stream talks, I have yet to watch it. I also tuned into some BTS, PRISTIN, (G)I-DLE, and TWICE V-LIVEs.

    Music Videos/Choreography Commentary — WOWZA

There are so many amazing music videos this summer and I got the time to notice the music videos closer. I really enjoyed all the settings, colors, outfits, and props in all the music videos I watched this summer. I cannot choose a favorite music video, because they are all interesting and wonderful. I pretty much watched close to all the music videos of all the comebacks from June to now.

Here are some to check out (not favorites, just the ones I recently watched and thought of off the top of my head):

On the other hand, I really like that dances to iKON's "KILLING ME," GFriend's "Sunny Summer," and TWICE's "Dance the Night Away".

Hope for next post, rest of year, next summer  — K-POP

Looking back would I want to have utilize my summer for something completely non K-pop related? No. But, I should have balanced out my summer for something else like exercising or writing other things. My hope for the future is that, with this knowledge, I want to make my year and life a balance between K-pop and myself. This seems very peculiar but I do see myself continuing this blog with more and more posts. I am not writing anymore K-pop until the end of the year, which is when I will be looking forward to the end of the year music specials. That will be my next post, in December. This is my last post for now. I hope I can use the determination, diligence, and obscure passion toward K-pop for other things. My summer of 2018 is coming to an end and I am already mind-blown to thinking what can come next year.

    K-pop? K-pop! K-pop.
